By Rebecca Taylor

Inform your children what airport security is all about. Explain the entire process to them before you get to the airport. Stay near your children when they have to go through the security gate so they feel safe. It is also a good idea to have an adult go before them so they understand the procedure and how easy it is.

Wait to exchange large amounts of money until you get to your destination. If you know that where you're going won't let you exchange your money for the local currency before you land, make sure to bring exchange it before you go.

Be sure to pre-plan your trip if an airport is involved in your travels. The trip to the airport requires that you give ample time to deal with traffic, rush hour conditions and other unexpected delays. Make sure to have your luggage packed and waiting on the night before you leave. Complete and execute all of your plans well in advance of your flight. Missing your flight is something you do not want to experience.

Affix a label containing key contact info to the inside of your luggage. This label should include your name, your cell phone number, and your address. If your luggage happens to get lost and there are no external tags, you will have ones inside. If you allow your luggage to stray from your field of vision, you may never see it again.

Your children should always have some form of identification on them. The child should have enough change on hand to make a call from a pay phone in case of emergency. Parents should have a recent picture of every child complete with their height and weight written on the back of it.

Don't bother wrapping gifts if you have to take them on an airplane trip. Often times the TSA will need to open your neatly wrapped present to ensure there is nothing hazardous. Pack the wrapping paper for later, but do not wrap the gifts until you reach your destination.

If a hotel is fully booked, see if you can stay in a room that is out of service. Some hotels will not rent a room if there is a minor problem such as a leak or a carpet stain.

Make sure you are careful about any food allergies you may have whenever you visit a foreign land. If your food allergy is particularly bad, make sure to express this in their language. This helps ensure that the wait staff is clearly informed of your allergies in case of an emergency.
